Haven & the Urn of Sacred Ashes
Find Genitivi, pass the Gauntlet and recover the ashes needed for Eamon.
The Urn quest is a long investigative/dungeon chain. Its trickiest sections are locating Genitivi, navigating Haven and solving the Gauntlet bridge puzzle.
Route at a glance
Investigate Genitivi’s home
In Denerim, enter Brother Genitivi’s residence and question the assistant. Search the rooms for clues. If the conversation turns hostile, deal with it and use the evidence to continue the trail toward Haven.
Reach Haven
Travel to Haven and explore the village. Residents are evasive and the settlement eventually turns hostile. Fight toward the church/building where Genitivi is being held and speak with him.
Enter the Ruined Temple
Use the information/key from Genitivi to access the temple. Clear cultists room by room and search side chambers for keys and loot required to open the deeper route.
Pass through the Wyrmling Lair
Continue through the caves and cult forces. Drakes and dragonlings can overwhelm isolated characters, so pull groups carefully and keep ranged party members out of melee piles.
Decide what to do with Kolgrim
Kolgrim offers cooperation and a later chance to defile the ashes. You may accept temporarily, refuse and fight, or pursue role-playing outcomes. Defiling the Urn can cause severe companion reactions, including possible confrontation.
Answer the Gauntlet spirits
Inside the Gauntlet, speak with the spirits and answer their questions. Incorrect responses produce fights but do not permanently block progression, so the sequence is survivable even if you do not know every answer.
Solve the bridge puzzle
The bridge is controlled by floor plates on both sides. Split party members onto the pressure plates so each successive bridge segment becomes solid for the active character. Move one character across a segment at a time while keeping the plate combination active, then reposition the party to extend the next segment.
Defeat the mirror party
The Gauntlet creates copies of your current group. Focus-fire dangerous casters/rogues first and use crowd control. Afterward, continue to the final purification trial.
Cross the fire and take the ashes
Follow the altar instructions and pass the final flame barrier. Reach the Urn and take only the amount needed for Eamon unless you intentionally chose the defilement path.
Optional High Dragon
If you obtained Kolgrim’s horn and want the optional dragon fight, use it outside near the mountaintop arena. This encounter is much harder than surrounding enemies; prepare fire resistance, healing and ranged options.
Return to Redcliffe
Bring the ashes to Arl Eamon. This resolves his illness and opens the political path toward Denerim and the Landsmeet.
- For the bridge puzzle, the goal is not to move everyone together. Keep party members standing on plate combinations while one character crosses the solid segments.
- Wrong spirit answers in the Gauntlet do not ruin the quest; they simply trigger combat.
- Defiling the Urn can trigger permanent companion consequences. Save first if you are unsure.
- The High Dragon is optional and can be postponed until your party is stronger.
