A strong first loadout is a light source plus two information tools such as thermometer/EMF/video camera. In multiplayer, split evidence tools across the team instead of duplicating everything.

On harder difficulties, identify hiding spots and the breaker location early. Do not wait for the first hunt to learn the map.
