Get the Kokiri Sword

From the training area, crawl through the small hole and work around the rolling boulder maze to the chest containing the Kokiri Sword.

Buy a Deku Shield

Collect at least 40 rupees around the village and buy the Deku Shield from the shop. Equip sword and shield, then speak to Mido at the path to the Deku Tree.

Meet the Great Deku Tree

After Mido moves, follow the path, speak with the tree and accept the request to enter.
